The Influence of Lablab Purpureus Growth on Nitrogen Availability and Mineral Composition Concentration in Nutrient Poor Savanna Soils

Low soil fertility in savanna soils has been linked to low crop yields, with nitrogen being the most limiting factor yield. Soil used this pot experiment was obtained from Motshephiri village total N, NO3− and high NH4+. A conducted a greenhouse laid Randomized Complete Block Design four treatments (1) control, (2) Bradyrhizobium japonicum inoculant, (3) superphosphate (4) inoculant + superphosphate). The applied at three different levels (45, 60 75 kg/ha). Lablab cultivated each treatment results of study indicated that lablab growth significantly increased N NO3−, reduced concentration NH4+ relative original herein referred as pre-lablab growth. However, forms (total NH4+) did not differ amongst or without inoculant. growth, proved have significant impact on both macro (P, K, Ca, Mg, Na) micronutrient level (Fe, Mn, Cu, B Cl) exception Zn. This suggests lablab’s ability rapidly boost content, overall short period time use fertilizers inoculants makes it ideal for intercropping rotating non-leguminous crops growing season.
